Dots of Green

Dots of Green

[20 Minutes]

Supply your child with a palette of paints and create a green work of art together!

You'll need:

• paints (green, yellow, blue, white) • paper plate • cotton swabs • heavy white paper

What to do:

  1. Together place a small amount of green paint in the center of a paper plate. Add dabs of blue, yellow and white paint around the plate like an artist's palette.
  2. Invite your child to paint a green picture on heavy paper. Using cotton swabs, let her make small dots of color on the page, mixing the green paint with the other colors. The green dots will have many hues from light to dark. Overlap the different color dots "like neighbors."

How to use:

  1. When the green picture is dry, let your child use this paper as a background to glue on magazine cutouts.
  2. Add a few leprechaun stickers and this will make a great St. Patrick's Day collage.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Did you enjoy painting with cotton swabs? Show me how you made dots.
  • How many different shades of green did you create? Let's count them.
  • What would you like to glue on top of the green background?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle skills and an understanding of cause and effect.
