Sing a Song of Colors

Sing a Song of Colors

[15 Minutes]

Help your child review the basic colors and relax with a song!

What to do:

  1. Point out the colors each of you is wearing.
  2. Then teach your child the following song (Tune: "Mary Had a Little Lamb"):
    Who is wearing something red?
    Something red, something red?
    Who is wearing something red?
    Stand and wave to me.
  3. Add new verses by changing the color in the verse.
  4. Another time, add new endings using different actions. For example: "Who is wearing something blue? Bend down and point to your shoe". -OR- "Who is wearing something green? Give a little scream."

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What colors did we sing about? Do you know the names of any other colors?
  • Could you dress up dolls or bears and sing the color song using them?

Useful information:

While you are bonding together, your child is developing large muscle skills, language skills, and an understanding of colors.
