Jack-O-Lantern Fruit Cup

Jack-O-Lantern Fruit Cup

[25 Minutes]

Create a healthy Halloween treat that's sure to have your child "grinning like a jack-o-lantern."

You'll need:

• orange • fruit chunks and canned fruit cocktail • knife (ADULT USE ONLY) • spoon • bowl • plastic knife • toothpick • marker

What to do:

  1. Cut off the top of the orange.
  2. Ask your child to help you scoop out the insides of the orange and put it into a bowl.
  3. Help her pick out the seeds.
  4. Let her use a plastic knife to cut the canned fruit into small chunks.
  5. Encourage her to mix this fruit with the orange in the bowl.
  6. Fill the scooped-out orange with fruit chunks and canned fruit.
  7. Replace the top of the orange. Secure with a toothpick.
  8. Help your child use a marker to draw facial details on the jack-o-lantern.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Is your jack-o'-lantern smiling? Is he happy or sad?
  • Do you like this fruit cup as a Halloween treat? What is your favorite fruit?
  • What else could we make with scooped out oranges?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle skills and an introduction to food preparation.
