Ten Little Pumpkins

Ten Little Pumpkins

[30 Minutes]

Invite your child to play and learn with pumpkins and other Halloween shapes as you sing this popular song!

You'll need:

• construction paper • scissors • pencil

What to do:

  1. Help your child cut pumpkins, ghosts, and witches from construction paper.
  2. Teach him to sing the following song (Tune: "Ten Little Indians"):
    One little, two little, three little pumpkins;
    Four little, five little, six little pumpkins;
    Seven little, eight little, nine little pumpkins;
    Ten pumpkins on a fence.
  3. Change the verse as follows:
    One little, two little, three little witches ....Ten witches "flying in the sky".
    Continue with ghosts "in the air".
  4. Encourage your child to place the paper props on the table and to point to the corresponding cut out as you sing this song together.
  5. Together, make up more verses using the Halloween props.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What can we make with a real pumpkin?
  • What character would you like to be for Halloween?
  • Can you include this character in our song?

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle skills, listening, language, and pre-math skills.
