Butterfly Poem

Butterfly Poem

[10 Minutes]

A child enjoys observing colorful butterflies. Search for one in your garden or take a butterfly walk to see if you can see one in your neighborhood. Then, teach your child this butterfly poem.

What to do:

  1. Sit with your child as you teach her this poem.
  2. Repeat and encourage her to flutter her fingers. Have her reach and stretch as you both recite this verse.
  3. Invite your child to think of other ways to act out the rhyme, and of different words to place in the verse.

    Fly little butterfly, fly.
    Fly little butterfly, fly.
Fly so high, that you touch the sky.
    Fly little butterfly, fly.

    Fly little butterfly, fly.
    Fly little butterfly, fly.
Stretch your gauzy wings, and think of lovely things.
    Fly little butterfly, fly.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What did you notice about the butterfly we saw?
  • What else do we see outdoors that flies?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small and large muscle skills and language skills. Any nature walk expands observational skills.
