Spooky Ghost Pictures
[15 Minutes]
Even if you don't believe in ghosts, this activity will be fun for you and your child. Dipping the string and using it to "paint" is a wonderful fine motor skill and the product is so unpredictable, leaving marks that will surprise and delight your child.
You'll need:
white tempera paint
clothespins
shallow dish
heavy string
black sheets of paper
water
What to do:
- Invite your child to pour a small amount of paint into a shallow dish and then thin it down with water.
- Encourage her to clip clothespins to pieces of string about 6 inches long.
- Challenge your child to dip the string into the paint and carefully let it drop and dance several times on the black sheets of paper.
- When the paint is dry, invite her to paint two white eyes wherever she sees a "ghost head."
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- Tell me about these marks you made. Where are the marks thick? Thin? Curved? Straight?
- Do you see a ghost in the picture?
Useful information:
While you are having fun together, your child is developing small muscle skills, and eye/hand coordination.
