Henry and Mudge and the Wild Wind

Henry and Mudge and the Wild Wind

by Cynthia Rylant
Simon & Schuster Children's

Storms make Henry and his big dog Mudge very jumpy. When it starts to thunder, Mudge goes to hide. As for Henry, he whistles "Happy Birthday" over and over. Then Henry's father comes up with an exciting game to play and soon Henry and Mudge have forgotten all about the storm. A delightful story about a common childhood fear.

Let's Talk:

Ideas to Explore Together

Before you read: What do you think Henry and Mudge are up to on the cover? Do you like storms?

As you read: Are you sometimes afraid of storms, thunder, or the wind? Tell me about a time when you were afraid. What happened?

After you read: What did Henry and Mudge do to help themselves not be afraid of the storm? What would you do?
