Rainbow Drink

Rainbow Drink

[40 Minutes]

Fruit juices are very popular and are sold in over 40,000 vending machines throughout the United States. Choose 100% fruit juices to make this refreshing rainbow drink. It's festive anytime of the year.

You'll need:

• pineapple juice • small bottles or juice boxes of grape, orange, and cranberry juice • ice cube trays

What to do:

  1. If possible, print out these directions. Read them through with your child before you begin.
  2. With your child, gather everything you'll need.
  3. Together, prepare different colored ice cubes by pouring juices into ice cube trays and then freezing.
  4. When the ice cubes are frozen, help your child prepare the Rainbow Drink: pineapple juice with ice cubes made of grape, orange, or cranberry juice.
  5. Invite your child to observe what happens to the color of the drink as the ice cubes melt.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Which juice is your favorite? Why?
  • What do you think will happen as the ice cubes melt in the pineapple juice?
  • Why do you think we call this the Rainbow Drink?
