Explore Winter Walk

Explore Winter Walk

[20 Minutes]

Get some fresh air and discover the glory of winter together with your child! Use all of your senses on this winter walk.

You'll need:

• pencil • paper

What to do:

  1. Ask your child to bundle up and join you on a walk to discover the sights, sounds, smells, tastes and feel of winter with you!
  2. Encourage him to smell the pine trees, feel the cold branches and prickly pine needles and holly leaves.
  3. Consider recording your child's observations as you walk.
  4. If there is snow, crunch it as you walk.
  5. Visit a bakery and smell their breads and cakes; buy some to eat or take home!
  6. If you are near a music store, listen to the sounds of music.
  7. Discuss the experience when you get home.

How to use:

  1. Invite your child to help you write about your winter walk. You can write down his comments or use those you wrote down on the walk itself.
  2. Encourage him to illustrate the experience by drawing or painting a picture.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What things do you remember from our walk?
  • Can you think of things we discovered with our eyes? Ears? Noses? Fingers?

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop an appreciation of nature and language skills.
