Winter White

Winter White

[25 Minutes]

Whether you live in an area with lots of snow or where you only dream about it, your child can make it feel like winter with this art activity. You might even need some hot chocolate!

You'll need:

• white crayon • white tissue paper • blue or black construction paper • white ribbon • glue • chalk • cotton balls • white lace scraps

What to do:

  1. Talk about winter snow or look outside at a snowy view. What do you see?
  2. Invite your child to create a snowy scene with white art materials on dark paper.
  3. Encourage your child to tell you about the snowy picture. Write down her words. Reread them to her and ask her if there is anything else she'd like to add.
  4. Display the winter scene and dictation together where family members can enjoy them.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Talk about the textures of the white materials. Which are rough? Smooth? Bumpy? Soft?
  • If it was snowing, would you like to go outside? What would you like to do?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop creativity and pre-reading skills.
