Winter Wonderland Pictures

[15 Minutes]

This lovely winter picture is fun to make and will remind you of the beauty of the season all year long.

You'll need:

• dark green or blue construction paper • newspaper • white tempera paint • old toothbrush • small evergreen branch • white glue • tinsel

What to do:

  1. Let your child help cover your work area with newspaper.
  2. Place construction paper on it.
  3. Invite your child to place the evergreen branch on the paper.
  4. Show him how to dip the toothbrush in the paint. Hold the brush in one hand and have your child draw his thumb across it with the other hand. It will splatter paint on the paper. Continue until you see the outline of the branch against a white background.
  5. Let the paint dry.
  6. Then invite your child to dab white glue onto the white paint and add discarded tinsel as a finishing touch.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Why does your picture look like winter?
  • What do you like best about winter?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, your child is learning new art techniques and developing an understanding of cause and effect.
