Make Up Holiday Songs

Make Up Holiday Songs

[10 Minutes]

Familiar tunes can produce lots of songs when you and your child create new lyrics.

What to do:

  1. With your child, think of a simple holiday song with a familiar tune.
  2. Then together change the lyrics to create a new song.
  3. “Jingle Bells” might become:
    Holidays, holidays.
    We love holidays.
It’s such fun, to sing and play,
    with friends and fam-i-l-y-E! (Repeat)
  4. “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” might become:
We wish we could to do some (twisting).
We wish we could do some (bending.)
We wish we could do some (jumping)
    We’ll do it right now!
  5. This is a great way to combine music and movement.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Do you like to sing and dance?
  • What is your favorite Christmas (Hanukkah, Kwanzaa) song?
