Holiday Sewing Cards

Holiday Sewing Cards

[25 Minutes]

Don't throw away those holiday greeting cards! Not only are they beautiful, but you can use them to create sewing cards with your child.

You'll need:

• greeting cards • yarn • tape • hole punch • scissors

What to do:

  1. Cut an 18"-long piece of yarn and wrap one end with tape. Make a knot at the opposite end.
  2. Cut off the cover of a greeting card.
  3. Help your child use the hole punch to punch holes around the design or around the edge of the cards.
  4. Invite your child to "sew" by moving the yarn tip--up and down--through holes.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Which card do you like best? Why?
  • Let's make up a story about this picture.

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle skills, eye/hand coordination, and language skills.
